Read Across America Day
In honor of Read Across America Day, which celebrates Dr. Seuss’s birthday, Ashville 1st grade students in Megan Ehman and Erin Wilson’s classes had special guests read Dr. Seuss books to them throughout the day.
The final guest readers for the day were Superintendent Jeff Sheets and Assistant Superintendent Kyle Wolfe. They surprised the students in Thing 1 and Thing 2 T-shirts and hats from The Cat in the Hat.
“Read Across America is a day when all kids should be read to by a caring adult. We had five adults from the district come read to our first grade classes. We really appreciate our caring administration taking time out from their busy day to come read to our students,” Ashville 1st grade teacher Erin Wilson said.

Food Drive
The Ashville students collected over 2,000 items to donate to the Ashville food pantry. Mrs. Foster's class brought in the most donations with 211 items.
According to Ashville Guidance Counselor Rebecca Brown, the goal of the food drive is to teach the students about compassion.
"Even when times are tight for many of our families, it is still important to learn to share what we can and to think of others.  As cold weather and the holidays are approaching, it is a good time to learn to give rather than to always be receiving. The students and their families were very generous this year as this was one of our most successful food drives," she said.
Mrs. Foster's class is pictured with some of the donations.

Rainbow Fish Presentation
The ArtsPower National Touring company came to Ashville through a grant from the Margulis Fund, which helps bring performing arts experiences to our students. With the help of the book The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister, the performers brought the book to life. The students learned that we all have special gifts and that it is important to share our gifts with others. It wasn't until Rainbow Fish learned to share her gifts, of shimmering shiny scales with her friends, was she truly happy and had true friends.
The performers are pictured after the presentation.
