Welcome to Scioto Elementary School.
Scioto Elementary is located in northern Pickaway County in the Village of Commercial Point. This portion of the Teays Valley school district is growing at a rapid pace. The student population is approaching 650. A new wing will open this school year, which will allow our enrollment to reach approximately 700 students if the growth continues.
Scioto pride runs deep. Students have consistently improved on state test scores. Scioto has achieved an “Excellent” rating for 2006-2007 and “Excellent with Distinction” for 2007-2008 and 2008-2009. This distinction has been achieved through a rigorous academic emphasis. Scioto teachers continue to emphasize balanced literacy as the primary method for increasing students reading ability. Scioto curriculum has been aligned to state standards and students are regularly assessed regarding grade level indicators.
Scioto is not only committed to student achievement, but also to positive character development. Students are constantly reminded that respect, responsibility and hard work are essential ingredients to achieving their goals. Several award programs are in place to recognize students when they demonstrate these core values.
Parents, grandparents and community members are strongly encouraged to be a part of the daily activities at Scioto. Volunteers play a significant role as tutors and teacher assistants. Grandparents, fathers and mothers are asked to join their children and grandchildren for lunch on specific days throughout the year.
